Yes, well, the title of a movie and an these days old cliche at best. Everyone knows Russia (the former USSR) has it out for the USA, or at least so it seems, even in QUANTUM DEATH (Savant 2016).

Having had the unique opportunity of visiting the former USSR several times as a visiting scientist and naval officer pre- and immediately post-perestroika/glasnost, I can say in all honesty that, at least back then, even if they wanted to, they still couldn't have come. Wreak havoc in Eastern Europe, yes, but there were indications to me during my visits that suggested it was all more propaganda and bravado than reality. The numerous tanks appeared outfitted for a one-time blitzkrieg style war -- without even a replacement tank track link; the fastest jets at the time didn't appear to have insufficient fuel to return; the navy appeared formidable but was sorely outmaneuvered; the ground soldiers were reluctant, and furthermore they appeared ill-equipped for anything lasting longer than a few days or so. And remember, when the world was on nuclear countdown surrounding Cuba, it was the USSR that backed down. Now, I'm neither a "rusky" or "red," but as an author, it seemed to me when writing QUANTUM DEATH with A. G. Hayes that Russia would quickly take the blame, so, I envisioned things going a bit different. What if Russia...?
